Mijin Choi holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Minnesota in Collaborative Piano and Coaching, a Master of Music from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, with emphasis on Vocal Accompanying, and a Bachelor of Music in Piano from Kyung Hee University. Her work as an educator has included faculty and pianist/vocal coach appointments at SUNY Binghamton and the University of Connecticut, University of Massachusetts and South Shore Conservatory. Summer festival work has included Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Fargo-Moorhead Opera, and Franco-American Vocal Academy.
Mijin is a versatile pianist, vocal coach, songwriter/arranger and church musician, with more than a decade of experience working in the field of vocal, instrumental and sacred music. This includes having worked as a pianist and vocal coach in recitals, operas and opera scenes productions throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. She currently serves as the music director at Union Church in Waban, Massachusetts, a position she has held since 2021.
Mijin is thrilled to be returning to La Musica Lirica, having last been there in 2015, and is looking forward to reconnecting and making music with talented artists.
In addition to Mijin's musical career, she is also a chef, having recently graduated from the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts. She enjoys exploring the relationship between music, food, and our human experience.
