Melissa Heath, soprano, enjoys a varied career spanning opera, concert, and recital work. Hailed as a “soaring, sparkling soprano” with “vivacious stage presence,” she has performed such notable roles as Musetta in Puccini’s La Bohème, the Countess in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, and Micaëla in Bizet’s Carmen.

Her favorite concert engagements include Vaughan Williams’s Dona Nobis Pacem; Mozart’s Requiem and Mass in C Minor; and Poulenc’s Gloria with the Temple Square Chorale and Orchestra at Temple Square. She has also appeared as soloist in Handel’s Messiah with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Mozart’s Exsultate, jubilate, and Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915 with Sinfonia Salt Lake. With the Utah Symphony, Ms. Heath has performed Nielsen’s Symphony No. 3 and Handel’s Messiah.

In 2017, she was the soprano soloist for Ballet West’s world premiere of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, choreographed by Nicolo Fonte. She reprised the role with Ballet West (2022) and Nevada Ballet Theatre (2022, 2023). Ms. Heath is a frequent soloist with Salt Lake City’s NOVA Chamber Music Series and has appeared at the Gina Bachauer International Piano Festival.

In 2019, she sang the role of The Water in Utah Opera’s production of The Little Prince, performed Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with the Salt Lake Symphony, and appeared as soloist with the Utah Symphony in its Deer Valley Concert Series. In 2023, she performed with Ballet West in Stravinsky’s Les Noces and with Utopia, Utah’s premier early music ensemble. In 2024, she appeared with the Salt Lake Symphony for the world premiere of John Costa’s The Statuette EP and with the American Festival Chorus and Orchestra in Merrill Bradshaw’s The Restoration. In 2025, she returned to the Salt Lake Symphony to perform Górecki’s Symphony No. 3 and sang Robert Cundick’s The Redeemer with the Temple Square Chorale and Orchestra at Temple Square.

Ms. Heath was a district winner in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and a two-time regional finalist in the National Association of Teachers of Singing biennial Art Song Competition. 

She currently serves as Associate Professor of Music and Voice Area Coordinator in the Department of Music at Utah Valley University. Ms. Heath holds a Bachelor’s degree in Voice from Brigham Young University, and Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in Voice from the University of Utah.
