Opera News calls director Jeffrey Marc Buchman "a formidable talent" and South Florida Classical Review says, "Buchman is one of the finest and most versatile directors working in opera today." Mr. Buchman is as much in demand for new opera as he is for his fresh, compelling productions of the operatic classics. In contemporary opera, he has recently created productions of As One (Laura Kaminsky) for Hawaii Opera Theatre and Opera Colorado, No Exit (Andy Vores) for Florida Grand Opera, 27 (Ricky Ian Gordon) for Michigan Opera Theatre, Ainadamar for the University of Miami Frost School of Music, and three separate world-premieres by composer Carson Kievman - Tesla, Intelligent Systems and Fairy Tales: Songs of the Dandelion Woman.

Recent highlights in the standard repertoire include critically acclaimed productions of Eugene Onegin, Rigoletto, La bohème and Die Zauberflöte for Florida Grand Opera; Carmen for Atlanta Opera; Tosca for Opera Tampa; Rigoletto and South Pacific for Anchorage Opera; Il barbiere di Siviglia for Lyric Opera Baltimore; Il barbiere di Siviglia and La tragédie de Carmen for Syracuse Opera; Le nozze di Figaro, Turandot, Don Pasquale, Faust, Il Trovatore, Madama Butterfly and Die Zauberflöte for Opera Naples; Turandot and Manon Lescaut for Mobile Opera; Carmen, Carmen for Opera Carolina; Roméo et Juliette, La fille du regiment and a double-bill of Gianni Schicchi/Suor Angelica for Intermountain Opera; Die Zauberflöte and Così fan tutte for Brevard Music Center; Il tabarro/Gianni Schicchi for Opera Project Columbus; Hänsel und Gretel for Sarasota Opera; Carmen and L'elisir d'amore for Toledo Opera; Il barbiere di Siviglia for the Orlando Philharmonic; La Cenerentola for the Green Mountain Opera Festival; Cold Sassy Tree for the Sugar Creek Music Festival; La bohème and Madama Butterfly for the National Theater in Managua, Nicaragua. Mr. Buchman also serves as Artistic Director of "LiveArts" produced by the Grand Rapids Symphony. In its first iteration, this groundbreaking and enormously successful arena event included over 1,200 performers from opera, symphony, ballet and broadway.

Jeffrey Marc Buchman's work with young singers has been extensive. He has directed Donizetti's Le convenienze ed inconvenienze teatrali (Viva la Mamma) for Seattle Opera's Young Artist program; Don Giovanni, Romeo et Juliette and Die Zauberflöte for the Academy of Vocal Arts; La bohème, Carmen and La traviata for the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music; Don Giovanni for UCLA's Herb Alpert School of Music; Luisa Fernanda and Pirates of Penzance for Tulsa Opera's Young Artist program; La Traviata and L'Elisir d'amore for Cincinnati Conservatory of Music's Summer Program; L'Elisir d'amore and Gianni Schicchi for the Brancaleoni International Music Festival in Italy; Die Zauberflöte, Hansel & Gretel, The Bartered Bride, Amelia Goes to the Ball, La Divina, Die Fledermaus and Cosí fan Tutte for the New World School of the Arts; Gianni Schicchi, Suor Angelica, Stravinsky's Mavra, Ainadamar (Golijov), Cendrillon and the Light in the Pizza for the University of Miami's Frost School of Music where he currently serves as stage director for the Frost Opera Theater.

Mr. Buchman began his music studies at the Baltimore School for the Arts and later at the Interlochen Arts Academy. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Opera from the Boston Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music degree in Voice from the Peabody Conservatory of Music in his native city of Baltimore, Maryland. He studied German at the Goethe Institut in Prien am Chiemsee, Germany and Spanish at the Instituto Cervantes. He trained in the Young Artist Program of the Florida Grand Opera, where he later was honored with the company's Evelyn P. Gilbert Award, and also in the Studio and Apprentice Artist Programs of Central City Opera, where he was awarded their Studio Artist of the Year award. Winner of the prestigious Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition, Mr. Buchman began his work in opera as an acclaimed singer noted for his ability to merge acting and singing. Other prizes include First Prize in the National Voice Competition of the National Society of Arts and Letters and a Richard F. Gold career grant from the Shoshana Foundation.
