Bonnie Koestner has served as pianist, coach, chorus master, and assistant conductor for more than two hundred productions throughout the U.S. For the San Francisco Opera she worked with both the main stage and Merola/Adler Fellow programs, preparing the North American premieres of Tippet’s “King Priam” and Reimann’s “Ghost Sonata” as well as a variety of standard repertoire. She was chorus master and head of music staff for Florida Grand Opera in Miami, and was chorus master, pianist, and coach for fifteen seasons at Glimmerglass Opera. She has prepared productions for a long list of other professional companies, among which are Atlanta, Baltimore, Palm Beach, Tampa, Central City, Sacramento, Sarasota, Nevada, and Utah. In addition to her extensive work with professional companies, she has always been devoted to education and the training of young singers. She was a principal opera coach for the San Francisco Conservatory, created an education/outreach program for Nevada Opera that reached 20,000 students a year, and has been on the faculty of numerous young artist and training programs, including Oberlin in Italy. She is Professor Emeritus at Lawrence University, where she was vocal coach and music director for opera for sixteen years. Ms. Koestner currently resides in Richmond, VA, where she remains active as a coach and pianist.
